| Week 22 part 2 | |||
| It was now time for us to receive our badges and become peace officers. When you get your badge you receive it from the commanding officer of Depot. But if you have a family member who is or was a police officer they can present the badge to you. Since my father was a Mountie for 28 years I of course had him present me with my badge. This was probably the most incredible moment of my life. I marched up to my dad and was handed the badge that I had worked so hard to get. And to have it handed to me by my dad just made it much more special. It is a moment I will never forget. Now all that remained was the dinner, which was that night. It was our last chance to see our troopmates before we were scattered throughout Canada. The meal was delicious and a lot of pictures were taken with us in our serges. And that is it, my journey through Depot ends. Now my new life starts, my life as a member of the RCMP. I only hope that my time in the force can be as rewarding as the time I spent at Depot. I met some of the greatest people here in the cradle of the Force. I can only hope that the members I meet in the field will be the same, they should, Depot is the one thing we will all have in common. This website started out with me updating my family and friends on my application process back in September of 2003. When I was at Depot I talked to many parents who checked this site every week to see how their son or daughters were fairing in Troop 35. They told me that when they read the website they always got more information from it than when they talked to their children. I must admit that my parents were in that boat as well. When I would sit down every weekend to update this site, events that I forgotten would pop into my head. I would receive a phone call from my parents telling me "you never told us you did this.." That would happen at least 3 times a month, and having a poor memory myself, this site will help me remember the months that I spent in Regina with some of the greatest people I have ever met. Now we are all members of the largest police family in Canada and I hope that we can all stay in contact with each other. From all the members of Troop 35 2003/2004 thank you for joining us as we completed our training, your support helped us through those nights were we just wanted to go home and call it quits. I also hope that this website can help future cadets know what to expect when they are planning to come to Depot. To know that they are not alone in wondering "what the hell am I doing here?" Believe me I thought that a thousand times while I was sitting on my bed surrounded by 30 strangers. But at the end of 6 months those strangers turn into dear friends and your thoughts change to "I can't believe it, I am a Mountie!" |
