| So after I had turned around and saw the gas coming out the corporal told me to take off my mask. Then it hit me, I could not breathe at all! My eyes had sealed shut and I started to panic a bit. Corporal Pullen asked me where I was from and after about a minute I managed to get out Regina. By this time I had started to rock back and forth and I was holding my pants by the crotch for some reason. So naturally the next question out of the corporals mouth was "Fisher, do you have to go to the bathroom?" Which made everyone else who was watching start laughing at me. This caused me to get a bit angry and I pounded on the glass that separated us to make him ask me another question so I could get the hell out of there. It worked. He then asked me what I did before I came to Depot and I told him I fixed computers. He then told me to put my mask on and I did. The first couple of gasps I took did little to settle my panic, they made it worse. You can't take deep breaths in a gas mask, so I paniced some more. But luckily the guys I was with took care of me and got me to calm down, and within a minute I was breathing fine in the mask. The last guy in our group went and it was time to leave. The gas is better than pepper spray because when I got outside and took off my mask the effects were pretty much gone. I was coughing a bit and my arms and neck burned some from the gas but not near the after effects of pepper spray. And when you shower afterwards it doesn't all start over again which is nice. We didn't lose any cadets out of our troop this week thankfully, but we did gain two new ones. A couple of guys that were backtrooped for various reasons have joined us. Welcome aboard boys!! So overall a good week. A benchmark passed and we got gassed. Next week we find out our province and we have some night detachments, looks like fun. Keep on moving 35, not much farther to go. |
