In my last update we were changing schedules going from the watch system to a different one since OCN was getting there own detachment. That went on for about 6 months and it wasn't as good as the old system so we switched back. I was put back on 'A' Watch and was put on with a bunch of good guys. Junior guys might I add, there are times such as right now that I am the most senior member on the watch. But we enjoy working together which makes coming to work a lot easier. Like everywhere in the RCMP we have been shortstaffed a lot here. But it looks like a lot of cadets are being transferred here to Manitoba. If you are one of the cadets being sent to 'D' I would encourage you to ask for The Pas. It has all the benefits of a northern posting (ie, paid trips out, northern allowance, tax deductions) without being too isolated from the world. It would in my opinion be one of the best postings in Manitoba. Since being here now almost three years I have seen quite a bit of action. I have been on high speed chases, drug busts, search warrants looking for guns, investigating stabbings, helping out other detachments with murders and so many other things that would take me 100 webpages to describe . It is a lot more exciting than my previous jobs. So if you are just starting out the process of applying stay with it, I know it can be a long and fustrating journey to get to Depot but it is worth it in the end if you are looking for a good paying job that is different everyday. This will most likely be the last update I do for this page as I think I have accomplished what I wanted from the page in helping future Mounties know what to expect in the application process, Depot and in the field. Thanks for checking out the webpage, I didn't think that when I started it about 4 years ago that I would be sitting here sharing my experiences of being a RCMP member with people across Canada. If anyone wants to contact me with questions or anything please do . Click here to email me. I always enjoy getting mail from people who have checked out the site. Cst Paul Fisher The Pas RCMP |
