You can read the whole story of how I built an igloo for my Kindergarten class at this site:IGLOO STORY IN WORDS

This page tells the story of our Reading Igloo in photos and captions. I was so thrilled to have been successful with this project for my students. I hope my experience gave my Kindergarten students a valuable lesson: "to keep trying!"

OK, here's the story in pictures and captions of how I built the igloo for my class. Requirements: lots of empty milk jugs and patience!

Milk jugs here . . .

. . .and more here . . .

Milk jugs there . . .

Milk jugs even on top of the closet!

. . . and more milk jugs on the other side!

"When will Mrs.Schenkelberg ever start making the igloo?"

"Hmmmmm, wonder if this is how it is done?"

Off to a good start on the foundation row.

Mom from morning class trims jugs . . .

Mom from afternoon class trims jugs . . .

Getting bigger and taking shape . . .need more milk jugs and hot glue.

Looking a bit weird and still not finished for our "Read Across America" event.

A new plan using PVC piping.

Almost -- just needs top.

New plan -- someone pushed one side in during the weekend. Use metal strips that are pliable for reinforcement and jugs are cut down 3 inches more.

This is working much better!
Staple whole rows of jugs together before adding. . .

Almost!

Top is on! Now work on entrance.

Mission accomplished finally!

One more view -- those sneaky polar bears went inside!
