My Trek With Paulie

Academy -- Covington House -- Old Library/Museum -- Hidden House

This is a photo of the front of the Providence Academy that was used many years ago as a school, convent, hospital and orphanage. Today it is remodeled inside and mostly used for offices.

Here I am getting in the photo of the Academy.

This part of the Academy is an upscale restaurant now.

This is a view of the Academy from the back and taken across the street.

One more picture of the back of the Academy with me in the photo!

Here I am on the sign designating the Covington House landmark.

This is the Covington House. It used to be on Fourth Plain but was moved to North Main Street when construction projects took over the area where it was originally built. The city wanted to preserve it as a part of Vancouver history. It is the oldest log house in the area.

Another view of Covington House with another building behind it.

This old library is now a museum and is on the list of historical places. It was built with funds from Carnagie Foundation. Many cities have libraries from this trust fund. It was not opened on Monday so we did not get to visit inside during our trip downtown.

This sign tells it all. Even though the library outgrew this fine old building, it is still being put to good use, holding many historical items from Vancouver's early history through the present day.

This plaque on the side of the building holds the names of many people that were instrumental in the beginnings of Vancouver's history as a city. Paulie says that Mr. Hidden owned a brick factory for many years in Vancouver. If Paulie gets a chance, she will go and take a photo of the Hidden House that is on the historical registry. We had too many rainy days to get to take photos of all the things Paulie would have liked to so you can learn more about this great city. She will add it to the last page where she is going to put some photos of things we missed on our travels while I was visiting because of the rainy weather.

On the side of the old library, there is a monument to the memory of the Pioneers of The Oregon Trail -- 1844. It is called "Spirit of the Trail" and was erected in 1916 by the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution.

This is a small airport near the Columbia River and the Fort Vancouver replica site. Many pilots have small planes they fly in and out of it daily. Of course, that is me, Flat Daniel , in the photo too!
