“Definition Essay”

The word phony can be used in several ways. All uses of the word manifest into separate meanings. The word phony could be used interchangibly with other adjectives, all pertaining to a different subject matter. Phony is often used to display dishonesty, and false impressions. Phony can also be used to describe a hypocrite, or one who is pretentious.

A phony is a person, man or woman, who exaggerates in everything he or she does. He is a person that is not honest to himself or the people around him. A phony is a person that lies about what he or she does, just to make himself look better. He tries to make himself look better, cooler, or at a higher level, rather than where he actually may stand.

A phony is a fake. He constantly contradicts himself, just so he could agree with everyone around him. He does not have an opinion of his own, he would rather just nod, smile, and laugh along with what anyone says. He does not state his own opinion for the fear of being different.

A phony is a person who pretends to be someone he is not. For instance, a phony may pretend to care when he really does not. A phony will act sincere, and pretend to feel bad for you. In reality the phony does not care the slightest about what you are feeling or your opinion.

There is no synonym for the word phony but there are many words that could describe one. The word phony could describe many diverse situations, people, and places. A phony is basically a dishonest, insincere and hypocritical person.
