Common theory has it that man has evolved over thousands of years, from a primitive ape, into today's highly complex and intelligent homo sapien. Ah, but where's the proof, you might ask? Well, it's right here, in The Human Race!

Your quest to develop into the most intelligent species begins in the year 1,000,000 BC. However, there's no Racquel Welch in your quest, oh no.
You must trek across the landscape to reach the biggest banana in sight. Now, that might look easy, but there are only certain parts of the trees that can hold your weight, so you must be careful where you jump. Not only that, but other creatures indigenous to your time are roaming around, and they must be avoided, or else the race ends here! Should you make it to the big banana, you'll also make it to the next stage on the evolutionary ladder, and you will progress to the year 100,000 BC.
However, evolution hasn't been kind....you're still the same clueless ape that you were 900,000 years ago. Still, it's on with the task of surviving and evolving, and in this stage you're gonna feel the heat. There's a moving pathway to the next stage of life (who knew that they'd built escalators in 100,000 BC?), but it travels through a pool of boiling hot lava. Fall off the path, and you're roasted monkey. The pathway has some holes in it, and these must be jumped in order to avoid a flaming death. Making things even more tricky is the erupting volcano in the distance, which spits balls of fire at you. These should also be avoided, if you don't want that hairy body of yours to go up in a blue light. Hey, no-one ever said the journey to manhood was easy!
Make it past the volcano, and you make it to 50,000 BC. Not only that, you're distinctly more human, although you still haven't learned the ability to walk completely upright yet. Perhaps Quasimodo is a direct descendant? Anyway, it looks like it'll be easy to evolve to the next stage. Apparently you are a Canadian caveman, because you need to cross the river and reach the cave at the other side, and a spot of nifty log rolling is the way to do it.
Did I say easy? Well, it might be, if it weren't for the fact that the river is infested with alligators, and at this point in time, you're probably at the same level on the food chain as them. Stray too close , and they'll eat the log you're standing on, followed by you! Hunchbacked caveman, rare, is definitely on the menu....

Once you get to the cave, you'll find that you have leaped forward to 25,000 BC. You'll also find out what lies inside that cave....a giant spider, the likes of which you've never seen before. If you can get past it to the cave exit on the other side, all will be well. It's not that simple though (when is it ever?). The floor of the cave is covered with tiles of differing colours. It's only safe to step on them at certain times - step on them at the wrong moment, and you'll plummet through to your doom.
Fortunately, a meter indicates when it is safe to go, and if you stay on a red tile you'll always be safe, so you can take a breather. But what if that spider gets too close? Well, if it touches you, you're a dead hunchy, but when you came through the waterfall from the last level, you kept a mouthful of water, and you can spit that at the spider to temporarily stop it in it's tracks.

Make it through the cave, and you've made it to 10,000 BC. You're now a big, strong, upright walking specimen, but you've still got a way to go, and this time you're racing against Fate himself! In a vertically scrolling level, you must race up the screen through time itself, to get to the year 2,000 AD. As you pass through time, you'll race past artifacts from the era, tracing the progress of mankind. Step lively though, as Fate's icy grip is upon you....he's just behind you, and if you make one false move, Fate will intervene and stop the evolutionary process in it's tracks. You need to make it, mankind depends on you....
