![]() | It's time to get yer chopper out, because you've been asked to take on quite an adventure: air surveillance of unfriendly territory. It seems that half the world is your enemy though, because to complete your mission you've got to cover 10,000 miles of ever-changing terrain; craggy mountain tops, tall city buildings, and long jagged tunnels are the order of the day. And that's only the start of your problems! The terrain is littered with chopper killing weapons like rockets, tanks, fireballs, and falling mines. Every 1,000 miles of terrain brings ever more difficult challenges and terrible danger. But a handsome payoff lies at the end for the pilot who's got what it takes. | ![]() |
![]() | You start your mission with four choppers, which you must remotely control by joystick. The first appears on screen at the beginning of the enemy terrain, while the remaining three wait at the bottom of the screen. Once you start, you will find yourself flying from left to right. You must avoid the many obstacles in your path and you will earn points for mileage. Should you collide with the terrain, or be hit by enemy fire, your chopper will go down. When this happens, your next chopper will begin at the start of the level that you were on. | ![]() |
![]() | Using your joystick, you can manoeuver your chopper up, down, and to the right. When you move left, the chopper "hovers." This proves useful when traversing steep inclines or declines. Pressing the fire button will alternatively release a horizontal missile, then drop a bomb. In addition to gaining mileage, you will receive extra points for destroying the different weapons you will discover along the way. There are four different types of weapons: ground artillery, rockets, fireballs, and mines. These weapons will differ depending on which level you are currently on. | ![]() |
![]() | The blue bar at the bottom of the screen is your fuel gauge. Keep an eye on it because if your fuel runs out....well, you can guess what happens. Fortunately, as is the crazy way of video games, if you shoot or bomb a blue fuel dump, your chopper will receive the fuel that it contained. Don't ask me how that works, I've never known. Anyway, a sound will warn you if your fuel is low, so make sure you hit a fuel dump, and quickly to fill up your tank. | ![]() |
![]() | You will notice a band of blocks at the top of the screen. Each block represents 1,000 miles of terrain, or one game level. There are 11 levels in total. Every time you enter a new level, its corresponding block turns yellow. If you make it to the end of a level, you'll hear a little jingle, which will make you briefly wish your hearing aid was switched off. Shortly after that, you'll fly into the next level and a different section of the terrain. Each level not only has different terrain, but also has different types of enemy weapons, some of which are active and some of which are inactive. If you should make it to Level 11, you must pick up the booty by swooping down and landing on it. If you manage this, the action will briefly pause, and you'll hear another splendid tune to signify your accomplishment, before heading back to Level 1. There's no rest for the wicked....
