"Traffic" is a very gritty, realistic movie about the drug war. It stars Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Benicio Del Toro, and Topher Grace. Del Toro really does an outstanding job as the Mexican police officer forced to deal with internal corruption in the drug war. The movie's main settings are Cincinnatti, Washington, San Diego/Tijuana, and El Paso/Ciudad Juarez. Douglas' character becomes the national drug czar and has to deal with the situation worsening down south. Along the way, he finds out his daughter is a drug addict and is torn between two worlds.

This is not a movie I would go see again and again, but make no mistake: its utter realism is what makes this a good movie. Benicio Del Toro deserves an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Rated R for pervasive drug content, strong language, violence, and some sexuality. 147 minutes.
