"Saving Grace" has some pretty funny moments, but don't believe all the commercials that say it is the funniest movies in years. It is not. If you want to see a funny movie, go see one of the "Austin Powers" or "Police Academy" movies.
The movie is set in Scotland, where Grace has just lost her husband. He died with numerous mortgages left outstanding, along with several bad investments. She has a short amount of time to raise the money to pay off the mortgages on her house. Grace, an expert gardner, is forced to lay off her maintenence worker, Matthew. He uses marijuana on a pretty regular basis. Eventually, Grace realizes she can make a lot of money very fast by growing marijuana plants in her greenhouse. Then she can pay off the house mortgages and other debts her husband left. The comedy begins when she tries to hide the marijuana plants.
My main problem with this movie is the extensive use of marijuana. I may be a college student, but I am a Christian. Yes, there are some very funny moments in the movie. But to see a whole movie in which it is the main subject is a different thing. It just gets boring after a while when every scene involves it. While teenagers under 16 will probably find this a somewhat funny movie, I wouldn't recommend taking anyone under 16 to see this due to all of the scenes that involve marijuana. I don't really recommend seeing this at the theater. Your money would be better spent either renting it or doing something else. If you want to see funny British comedy, watch PBS or BBC America to see "Keeping Up Appearances," "Are You Being Served?," and "Mr. Bean." These shows are really funny and I recommend watching them.
Rated R for drug content and language. 94 minutes.
