"The Patriot" is a very powerful film starring Mel Gibson. It deals with the Revolutionary War in 1776. It has a very good storyline. Gibson plays a former war hero who decides to raise his family peacefully. When his oldest son is captured by the British, he has to become involved. This movie is similar to Mel Gibson's "Braveheart" in how its sheer power is conveyed to the audience. I recommend this movie to anyone that wants to see a good story about the Revolutionary War times in America. Be warned, however, that it is very violent. Children should not be brought to see this movie.

Rated R for language and violence. 160 minutes.
