Girl, Interrupted

2.5 Stars out of 4

I would have to say this is an "ok" movie. It's not great, but it's not horrible either. Winona Ryder plays Susanna Kaysen, an 18 year-old girl who has borderline personality disorder. She's forced to enter a mental hospital, Claymoore, by her parents. The movie deals with the friends she makes while at Claymoore and the struggles they go through while there. Angelina Jolie also stars as Lisa, the tough girl at Claymoore who becomes friends with Susanna.

So why does this only get 2.5 stars? Because sometimes there are long periods of dialog. While it never does reach the point of boredom, the movie sometimes appears heading that way. Also, judging from the preview, I would have thought that Angelina Jolie would have had a bigger role. I think that this movie is more geared toward girls (and women to a larger extent). Therefore, I probably cannot get that much out of it. Parents, the movie is good for girls to see, but I would make 15 the minimum age.

Rated R for strong language and content relating to drugs, sexuality, and suicide. 127 minutes.
