"Cast Away" is a very good movie. Tom Hanks gives an excellent performance as Chuck Noland, an executive at Federal Express who must learn an entire new way of life after crashing on a deserted island. Chuck has to survive living on an island for four years while the rest of the world assumes he is dead and thus, they move on with their lives. Included among them is Kelly Frears, Chuck's fiance played by Helen Hunt. The story is truly inspiring. While it does drag on in some parts, it shows the drastic realism of his predicament.
Acclaimed director Robert Zemeckis contributed his skills to the making of "Cast Away." His direction and vast cinematographical knowledge is clearly scene in the movie. Previously, Hanks worked with Zemeckis in the great 1994 film "Forrest Gump." Both are extremely intelligent people who only do about 1 or 2 films a year. Furthermore, I have never seen a bad movie by either one of them. This, coupled with the sheer quality of the movie, make me recommend "Cast Away" to everyone.
Rated PG-13 for intense action sequences and some disturbing images. 143 minutes.
