SONNET TO AN OCTOGENARIAN 1846
the old girl
not even glancing at Big Ben
silence of snow

a black and white cat
hangs around the cafe bins
just about midnight
she sings a song of lost love
where the chicken bones meet fish

how his dinner plate shrunk
after 80 years
Dad still hates peas

a row of carrots
between onions and beans
white dahlia blooms
cakes cooked by the 'young wives'
on a long trestle table

two epitaphs in stone
she died of nothing he died alone
paul t conneally& debra woolard bender
