2000

2000 is making a name for itself quick.  There are already characteristics of the decade that set it distinctly apart from it's parents. The ethnic composition of the street is showing a new face--Mexicans have become the majority and blacks have been better represented than in recent years.
The renter-owner ratio is improving... people are buying houses and paying more than ever for a home on Carson.  Values have risen from an average of $15,000-$25,000 to good luck finding a home under $60,000 for a single family--there are a handful at $90,000+.  Now the block is seeing home improvements-- new siding, roofs, and porches pepper the block.  Abandoned and burnt homes are almost extinct and the wounded structures are making way for fenced-in yards.  Families are becoming ... kids playing out front with parents sitting on the porch watching and visiting with the parents next door doing the same.

Pics of home improvements coming soon!

The Carson Apts. have recently wrestled with a bout of fires that seems to be the demise of the building.  If so, this will change the block forever...
