The Bay Area Folk Dance Scene for January 1999

 

January 5: Paul Strogan teaches Cape Breton Square dances and Tom Roby will call some Contra Dances. Music will be provided by: Jeanette Duncan and Gary Thomas at Ashkenaz.

January 7: Neal Sandler will review selected dances taught by Steve Kotansky and Joe Graziosi at the 1998 Kolo Festival at Mandala.

January 14: Edith will continue the review of 1998 Kolo Festival Dances at Mandala.

January 15: Dance Party featuring Voluta Vox and the Slavonian Traveling Band at the Slavonic Cultural Center.

January 15: Live Hungarian Music featuring Fero Tobak and Friends with dances led by Mary Tobak at Stanford International Dancers.

January 15 and 16: Folk Dance Federation Festival honoring our German heritage at Veteran's Memorial Building, 1455 Madison St., Redwood City.

January 19: Neal Sandler and friends will teach Kolo Festival dances. Concert with Westwind Voices. Music provided by Rumeli at Ashkenaz.

January 22: International dancing with Eser Ayanoglu at Stanford International Dancers.

Every Sunday: Neal Sandler, Tom Roby, Marjorie Nugent and Ellie Weiner teach Hungarian dances at Ashkenaz 1-4 PM.

Every Third Tuesday: Balkan dancing with live and/or recorded music at Ashkenaz. Teaching 7:30 - 8:45 PM and party on into the night.

Every Thursday: Mandala meets for International Folk Dance with Edith Bourbin 7:30-11 PM.

Every Friday: Albany "Y" International Folk Dancing with Mel Harte 8-11 PM.

First four Fridays: International and partner Folk Dancing at Chang's.
