ILIANA BOZHANOVA'S BIOGRAPHY



Iliana Bozhanova is a native of Galabovo, Bulgaria, and comes from a family of musicians and singers in Southern Thrace. Iliana has toured as a principal dancer and singer with Ensemble Ruchenitsa of Plovdiv since childhood. She has traveled extensively teaching and sharing the authentic material which she has collected with the well-known kaval master Lyuben Dossev entitled "To the Bulgarian Folklore with Love". She currently is studying at the Academy of Music and Dance Art in Plovdiv.

 

In 1981, Iliana graduated from the National School for Amateur Art Instructors. She has worked as a choreographer with several ensembles including the "Children's Ensemble for Folk Dances" in Bulgaria, "Zarove" in Holland, "Kitka" in Norway and "Bosilek" in New York." for folk songs and dances, a well-known children's ensemble in Holland, as well as the adult ensemble Bosilek. Iliana has had two successful teaching tours in Norway, and has taught at several major camps in the U.S. including Mendocino Folklore, both Mendocino and Ramblewood Balkan Camps and Maine Camp.
