Usually it was stamped into the wood, but the stamping can be either very faint, or small.
This can be seen in the photo on the right. The blue thing is the lid of a ball-point pen!
The mark was also printed, as can be seen in the middle photo of the marks from the Chiltern table below.
Tables, for instance, normally have the mark on the underside of the tabletop, whereas large items such as wardrobes seem to have been marked on the back panel, about in the middle but at varying heights.
Smaller items tend to be marked underneath, or on the back, depending on whether the back was intended to be seen.
