Workshop Descriptions and Outlines
Paula Murphy offers workshops that are practical and enlightening. Attendees will come away with knowledge they can use to help improve the services they provide at their institutions.
Sample workshops include:
Reference Services for Digital Special Collections: A Melding of the Digital
Revolution with Common Sense Tradition
Digital special collections are produced and sponsored by local, state, federal and international libraries, museums and other agencies as well as by vendors. This workshop will explore these collections and the service they require. It will present reference techniques to use with school age to adult users of these collections. It will explain how they compare with other digital information and collections in other formats. It will also include a look at how these collections are created, where they are located on the web and what role local and union online catalogs play in working with them.
Presenting Your Library Services: Making Successful Multimedia Library Presentations Using Microsoft's PowerPoint
This workshop is for those who do bibliographic instruction, technology training, user education and management presentations and use Microsoft's PowerPoint as a visual aid.
Because so many librarians cannot get away from their place of employment for workshops, Paula will come to their institution and present her workshops. She also specializes in one on one training. Librarians in small library settings will benefit from her short intensive training sessions.
Paula is also available to do projects for libraries that need her expertise in multimedia and special collections areas or any of the other services listed on her resume.
Paula will offer online tutorials for those who would like to learn when time is available to them. Shorten versions of Paula's live workshops also will be available online in the form of articles and PowerPoint outlines. Other types of online classes may also be available in the future.
Paula realizes that due to distance factors some librarians will not be able to benefit from an onsite visit. She also knows that after workshops are over and practical applications begin, there is a need to communicate with her. In addition, those who use her online tutorials may have many questions that they need answered. Therefore she offers chat and email options to those who want this kind of communication. Emails will be responded to in a timely fashion. Chat sessions can be arranged through Yahoo or MSN, instant messenger systems or other chat system sessions for those who want to learn live online.
