The big event this weekend was Jeep Fest North. Unfortunately I could only attend on Saturday the 4th, which meant I missed out on the competitions. I still managed to have a good time on the "blue routes," as this was also my first off-roading experience. The weather managed to behave for most of the day, although there was a brief 30 minute shower which for some reason attracted most people to the woodland area immediately !
The turn-out was pretty impressive, with a wide range of Jeeps (and the rare glimpse of a Discovery or two) including military vehicles, and some nice looking restorations.
It gave me the opportunity for my first off-roading experience. The woodlands courses consisted of three types of route - blue (easy), red (medium) and black (hard), the black routes required some modifications to the vehicles which braved to tackle them, such as a suspension lift. I obviously stuck to the blue routes being an off-road virgin, but there was still a few times when I doubted the Jeep's capability. Sure enough though it coped with no problems. I think I'll be attempting the red routes next time !
