Dramatis Personae

Player Characters in 'A Holiday Tale'

Lisa McKane aka Tethran/Tess

Lisa McKane stands slightly over 6 feet, with a stocky build. Her bland brown hair reaches down to shoulder level, and her plain face is dominated by eyes that have the constant squint of someone who spends hours over books. She usually dresses in comfortable clothing, tees and jeans or sweats. She wears a heart shaped locket, which is her only adornment. She is rarely seen without a book bag with many writing supplies.

Tess is Lisa's Fae Persona. Tess stands at about 6 feet as well, though her slim, athletic build makes it hard to determine her weight. Her rich chocolate hair falls to her midback, and her wide emerald eyes take in everything around her. Her pale blue skin suggests that this is a troll who spends a few to many hours indoors, and not enough in the sun. Her heart shaped locket is also evident on a silver chain around her neck. She also carries a long bladed sword in a back scabbard, though she does not look comfortable wearing it.

Lisa/Tess is fairly shy, obviously more comfortable by herself or with small groups. Once her shyness is overcome, she is willing to talk to anyone, usually about literature and poetry. She admits to having come from Arizona, but having gone to college at University of Ohio. After graduation, she took on work at the Greymayre Institute, where she teaches writing and English.

When not working, she spends a lot of time at the Columbus Conservatory (Herbium Castellum), especially in the desert setting, where she scribbles in her books.

Those that know her from the Greymere Institute know her to be a fair, though lenient, teacher. She expects her students, as well as her coworkers, to be honest and keep their word. She is not the most popular teacher, and tends to stay in her classroom during breaks.

At Court, Tess is generally a wallflower, consigning herself to watching. Rarely does she attempt to directly involve herself in the comings and goings of courtly life. However, in small groups, her shyness tends to give way to a domineering personality given to issuing orders, and expecting them obeyed.

Kevin Drake aka Sir Keighvyn ap Scathach

Kevin Drake, rookie police officer on the Columbus police force, is in his mid-20s, about 5'10", and lean and fit. Though not conventionally handsome, he's got sort of a pleasant, boy-next-door appearance. His hair is black and wavy, and a few errant locks always seem to be falling over his forehead. His eyes are a shade of blue-green that could pass for either green or blue depending on the light and what he's wearing. When on the job, he wears the standard dark blue uniform of a police officer; off-duty, he prefers comfortable casual attire (jeans and sneakers are staples of his wardrobe).

In his faerie identity as the sidhe knight, Sir Keighvyn (pronounced "Kevin") ap Scathach, his rich blue-black hair is worn just short of shoulder length (though often bound back with silver cord), framing a profile that would be at home on classical statues (if not for the pointed ears... ;-). His eyes are a vivid turquoise color, rimmed by thick dark lashes and set under gracefully arching brows. His usual attire is a jerkin of studded black leather worn over a white "fop shirt" (a tunic-length shirt with lacing at the neck and full sleeves gathered at the wrist), cinched at the waist over tight black trousers, and knee-high boots with the spurs of a knight strapped to the heel. A chimerical sword with a large blue-white moonstone in its pommel hangs at his hip, encased in a black leather scabbard tooled with silver knotwork.

As one of Her Excellency Countess Miriam's newest knights, Sir Keighvyn is as yet unproven, but he takes his chivalric ideals very seriously. He tries hard to live up to the image of "the perfect gentle knight": brave, courteous, and honorable. It can be a very difficult task at times, but he does his best. After all, a knight of the Seelie Court could do no less.

Note: Both Keighvyn's mortal and Faerie names are pronounced the same way ("KEV-in"). The faerie name is just spelled in a strange, Gaelic-derived way.

Jake Temperson aka Jubair the Traveller

Jubair the Traveller is an Eshu just arrived in the County from Australia. He is a dark young man, with sparkling, totally deep green eyes that seem full of energy, quite dark skin and long, luxurious black hair tied up in a ponytail. He often seems older than he actually is, especially when he speaks - his voice sounds like one that has seen the world. Jubair wears dark purple robes like a Bedouin nomad and has strong, durable sandals over bare feet.

Jubair has traveled to the County from Australia for many reasons. One of them is to see his uncle Iain, who lives and works at OSU. He has also come here to deliver a message to the "Flower Countess," to quote Rajabal. Rajabal is a chimerical barn owl that gave Jubair the message to pass on. He has a penchant for riddles and has been friends with Jubair in some of his other lives, and also has a bit of a problem keeping his magical powers under control sometimes!

The last and perhaps the most worrying reason as to why Jubair has traveled from home have to do with his dreams. Every so often while he sleeps (and occasionally during his waking hours), Jubair has dreams and flashbacks about events that seemed to have happened in his past lives, events that need correcting somehow in the present. Jubair and Rajabal hope to find a way to solve these dreams and stop them from haunting Jubair.

Christine Logan aka Kelia

Description/Appearance:

Mortal: Christine of average height and weight. She has medium-length blonde hair and pale, blue eyes. She is exceptionally beautiful, although she does little to advertise the fact. She wears loose-fitting clothing and often has on a Texas Rangers or SMU Mustangs ballcap. She speaks with a definite Texas twang, sometimes exaggerating it when the mood strikes her.

Faerie: Kelia is a bit taller, with icy silver eyes and longer hair that seems to shimmer from the palest blonde to golden to reddish blonde. She has pointed ears and wears far more flattering, flowing silks.

Background: Christine is a grad student at OSU working on a project funded by some corporation or the government involving computers. She has written a book, a mystery story with fantastical properties, based on what she thinks is her overactive imagination. In actuality, she's described things in the chimerical world with disturbing accuracy. The book sold well enough to give her an advance on a sequel.

Christine is from Dallas, Texas. She received a Masters in Computer Science from SMU while writing a novel based on weird dreams and what she considered an overactive imagination. In actuality, those imaginings were visions of the chimerical world. As her book, which she named "My Soul Within Me Burning" from a line in Poe's "The Raven," was being published, Christine moved to OSU where she'd accepted a position working on a computer system for Avalon, Inc. doing AI research. She rented a townhouse near the campus and divides her time between work and writing the sequel to her book. Her work is independent so she has few constant demands on her time. The name of her main character, Kelly, just seemed to come to her. She will realize before long it's because her changeling name is Kelia, a form of Kelly.

Sebastian Larkatos aka Sebby

Mortal Seeming:

Sebastian Larkatos is a tall young man in his early twenties. He is built like a marathon runner, his body lean and muscular. He carries a somewhat understated grace in every movement, his muscle strands clearly expanding and contracting under his Mediterranean skin. His hair is dark brown, almost black, though bright light reveals reddish undertones. He wears it fairly short, but long enough that it always looks unkempt, usually in a "just-got-out-of-bed" manner. He has 4 hoops in each ear, the two hanging from his lobes 10-gauge steel. Protruding from his left eyebrow is a single surgical steel loop. Sebastian's jaws and cheeks are bony and well defined, the point of his chin sporting a small brown goatee. His eyes are dark and his gaze penetrating, as if he is constantly alert and aware of any scene. The clothing he wears favors earth tones, greens, and grays. He is normally very quiet and speaks little unless he has something he feels is necessary.

Fae Mien:

The young satyr known as Sebby Larkatos is wiry and muscular, with the grace of an athlete. Protruding from the top of his forehead are a set of horns, both nearly 6 inches long and curling back on his head. His voile most often consists of a dark green tunic with a black Greek key pattern sewn into the hem. He often wears a dark, russet brown cloak and hood. Around his shoulder and resting at his right hip he carries a gray military satchel with numerous personal accoutrements inside. His legs are covered in short, dark brown fur down to his cloven hooves

Sebastian grew up in a fairly wealthy Greek family, a great number of which were Satyrs like him, the other half of which were Kinain. His chrysalis occurred very early in his life, so early in fact that he barely remembers a time when he didn't know the Dreaming. He has always embraced his life as a Satyr, his chief passion being competition, though he enjoys music, dancing, and other forms of revelry as much as any Child of Pan.

Generally speaking, Sebastian is a fairly reserved young man. He is not shy, but restrained. He saves his energy for what he most needs it. He has competed in a number of extreme endurance competitions and scored highly. He hides his passions well, as befits a young man learning a sorcerer's trade. He has been apprenticed to his uncle, the Crystal Circle Magician known as Hecataeus. Sebby's talents lean more towards manipulation of the physical than the spiritual, preferring to deal with the arts of nature, fire, sleight of hand and travel. He has just begun his journey to understanding Glamour and the magic of the fae, but has the makings of a great sorcerer.

Sylvana Kyteler Brechtfeld

Appearance: In her mortal seeming, Sylvia Brechtfeld looks much as any teenager does today. She's not trendy, and eschews most fashion movements for her normal looks of blue jeans, Converse all-stars, and sweatshirts bearing college names. Her pale blonde hair is tied behind her head in a ponytail, with shorter strands from the front hanging out in wisps. She has gray-blue eyes, which always look odd against her rosy red cheeks. She always looks slightly tired, and usually walks around the OSU campus with a cup of coffee in her hand.

Sylvana's fae seeming is much more noticeable. Her hair turns from blonde to silver-white, and the shade of her cheeks turns from pink to crimson, and small spirals dance from the corner of her eyes. The corners of her mouth stretch, which makes her constant grin even wider. Her ears elongate and sharpen to points. Her chin is slight and pointed, with a thin red spiral forming right on the cleft. She usually wears light pastel work clothes or coveralls when not attending court. For formal events, she wears dresses of pale blue and gray and pink, often in harlequin diamond patterns. Her clothing is always unusually clean for a Nocker's.

Sylvia is a first year Pre-Med student at OSU. Though younger than a great deal of the campus, she is extremely intelligent, getting high marks even in the toughest classes. She is outgoing and friendly, with a grin from ear to ear and a laugh that can be heard for miles. She is easily frustrated and will throw a tantrum at the most minor setback. She's been kicked out of the library three times in the first semester, once for swearing when a computer locked up, twice for trying to jury-rig it to go faster.

Around the court, Sylvana is a rising star. Her father, a Nocker who was granted a knighthood from House Dougal, is currently mentoring her. She is learning how to be a lady as well as a warrior, though her slight physique lends itself more to the former. Because of this, she prefers firearms and ranged weapons (of her own construction) to more traditional close combat weapons or fighting styles. She aspires to follow in her father's footsteps and become a knight of the county of the Buckeyes.

Jim Pisano, A.K.A. Lungwam Nutiket ("Dream Guardian")

Jim Pisano is 6'2" and about 215 lbs and quite physically fit, more so than one would expect for someone so young. He is only 16 years old, though most people think him to be considerably older. He is not what most people would call handsome, his features are a bit too rugged perhaps, but perhaps as he matures that will change. His brown hair is short and oily, parted to the side usually (which means when Jim remembers to comb it). His eyes are also a dark brown. His skin color looks like he is perpetually well tanned, a result of his mixed heritage, half Italian half Lenni Lenape Indian. He wears while in Columbus a pair of worn and somewhat torn blue jeans, a white undershirt that is also worn and maybe even a little stained, a beat up but serviceable black leather jacket and a pair of black leather boots that look like they've seen too many hikes and storms. Under his shirt and around his neck is a curious bag of bearskin, hanging on a leather cord.

Lungwam Nutiket (translation- Dream Guardian) is his Fae Mien. He is a huge (8'6") creature of granite with inky black eyes staring out from a stony face. Physically, he looks to be even more in shape than his mortal counterpart. His hair looks like the stalactites of a cave. He wears always a breechcloth of bearskin, held up by a belt, also of bearskin but seemingly from a different bear. Secured from the belt at his side is a stone tomahawk, hand made, seeming to have been well used but still in excellent condition. Around his neck, suspended from a leather cord, is his bear skin medicine bag. To Fae with the Soothsay art, he appears slightly different. There is an air about him, clearly sensed, that he has a great place in the Dan and a powerful destiny to fulfill.

Jim/Lungwam Nutiket's expression is usually cold and hard, not out of an attempt to be intimidating (though it does have that affect), but because that is the way it is. However, that can quickly change when he is around those who he knows and trusts. Then, his face is usually in a broad smile and hearty laughs fill the air. To most people, he can seem cold and unfeeling at first impressions. Later, they see that he is a man of deep feelings, he simply chooses not to express most of them. He believes in honor and chivalry and is willing to give almost anyone a chance. He considers himself to be a strong warrior, but knows his own limitations well. In battle, he is cold and rational with a strong head for tactics, and only under the greatest of circumstances will he fight out of anger. There is much courage in his heart, and he is more than willing to die for his beliefs, his quest, or a deserving person who truely needs his aid.

Lungwam Nutiket is originally from Philadelphia, but traveled with his Uncle to the outskirts of Columbus during his Chrysalis to learn the ways of the Nunnehi. He has been residing with the band of Chief Leatherface ever since.

His reason for coming to Columbus now came from a prophecy, delivered to him by Ursa Major, a powerful Bear Incarna and a totem of healing and protection, in which she charged him to aid a group of Kithain in Columbus to defeat an ancient and powerful evil. So, with some last words of advice from the band's Shaman, Lungwam Nutiket was taken to the Herbium Castellum to attend the court of Countess Mirriam ap Dougal, tell her of his quest and seek her aid in finding those Kithain who he was sent to aid. And of course, he's not at all nervous. No, not one bit. After all, who would be nervous about waltzing into a building full of beings more powerful than yourself who probably blame you for actions committed by Leatherface? No, nothing at all to be afraid of, he's not nervous at all, no sir. ... ... ... ... He just hopes no one notices that his palms are sweating.

Eduard O'Riley / Bugge (fairie)

Eduard, is a childling, pooka, otter. Pugged nose, and ears on top of his head of short shiny hair (Just the short shiny brown hair part in Mortal Seeming). He's about 12 years old. He was born to upper middle class, Kinain parents, in Columbus Oh, his grandfather is a grump Boggin, retired police chief in a nearby town. Eddie's parents knew that Grandpa could provide better for Eddie's needs than they could, so they spend a lot of time together. As time went on, Grandpa realised, that Eduard needed to be with more changelings closer to his own age, and be tutoured in the courtly ways. After a long discussion with both Eddie, and his parents, they decided to send him to the Gremarye Institute.

Ian Reynard (Mortal), Mianderr (Andy)(Fae)

MORTAL: Andy stands at 4 feet tall with a wiry frame. His tangle of long strawberry-blond hair almost obscures his plum-colored eyes. His ears taper into subtle points, poking out to the side. His nose juts out an inch from his face, and usually has a smudge of dirt on the tip. He usually wears oversized Hawaiian shirts with camouflage pants and boots a size too large. FAE: Light auburn fur grows on his forearms and shins, matching his shaggy hair. His large fox ears point out from the sides of his head, each tipped with black. His canine teeth are elongated, hanging over his lip when he smiles. A bushy fox tail curls out from behind him, swishing from side to side when he walks, runs, or wants to look innocent. His violet eyes grow even wider and brighter, their depths revealing his deep connection with his fae soul.

As a mortal, Andy (Ian Reynard) attends the Gremayre Institute. He has little to do with most of mortal society, though he does like mortals in general. Despite living at the boarding school, he often visits his family: David, his father; Daphne, his mother (another fox pooka); and Sara, his Kinain sister. His father is a city councilman, and provides Andy with a fairly extensive schooling in American politics. He enjoys playing pranks with (and on) his sister, and they are very close. His mother has taught him about Kithain society and politics, both Concordian and from the Isle of the Mighty, where she was born.

Andy's mother's brother, Raymond Bradshaw, is a minor mortal lord in the House of Lords in England's mortal Parliament. Raymond's son, Reginald, is another close relative to Andy. Every summer since his Chrysalis in his sixth year (an event he accepted with the greatest joy), he has spent his summers in England with his uncle and cousin. His cousin, also a fox pooka, introduced Andy to his most favorite sport of all: the "fox hunt." When the local lords and ladies would go fox hunting, Reggy and Andy would both shift into foxes and lead them on a merry chase. Their game was made even more fun when they would occasionally shift back to fae form for brief periods, and just as the hunting party and hounds were on the verge of giving up, shift back to foxes and continue the game anew. This game sharpened his senses, instincts, and agility, more than compensating for his lack of physical strength. Even today, he enjoys such games of "fox and hound." He also paid several visits to fae and mortal sacred sites in England, an activity which changed his life significantly. Through his contact with such places as Stonehenge and many an enchanted glade, his faerie soul grew even stronger and more vibrant. Since then, his fae senses have expanded beyond their former capacity.

Ever since his Chrysalis, Andy has felt a higher purpose. He feels the weight of the world on his shoulders at times, but his exuberant nature hides this fact well. He constantly strives to help people however he can, and that usually involves being a shoulder to cry on or an ear to speak into. His empathic skills are finely honed because of this. He aspires to be a child counselor or a teacher when he grows older, so he can continue to listen and lift emotional burdens whenever he can. He has knowledge of mortal and Kinain politics, but his main passion is being connected to the "social circle." He adores social gatherings, whether it be a banquet or an elaborate ball. He has trained extensively in dance, including ballroom dancing, and performs whenever he is able.

His very nature is one of energy and optimism. He interacts with his fellows with an overflowing charisma, which is even more effective because it is always sincere (he tries his best not to lie most of the time, and especially so when he wants to charm people). A few quirks of Andy's include a need to constantly groom his tail (by hand or with a brush), a twitch in his left ear whenever he blinks, and an insatiable hunger for jellybeans.
