Monument Valley

This is the classic Wild-West landscape of stark sandstone buttes and forbidding pinnacles of rock. Monument Valley is on the Arizona - Utah border, a couple of hundred miles east of the grand canyon.

I went on a 2 1/2 hour trip on the back of a truck, into Monument Valley. The initial monuments you see are the Left and Right Mittens - the Left Mitten is shown below.

You then reach John Ford's Point, named after the legendary Film director.

The tours normally end at Artist Point, giving another great panoramic shot of the valley.
