Florence - the Ponte Vecchio One of the most famous bridges in the world, the Ponte Vecchio serves as a pedestrian bridge, lined with Goldsmiths and Jewellers. The main structure contains a corridor, 'The Corridoio Vasariano', a passageway built by Vasari to link the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palzzo Pitti through the Uffizi, winding its way down to the river, over the Ponte Vecchio, through the church of Santa Felicitia and onto the Giardino di Boboli. The corridor is completely lined with paintings. Unfortunately the corridor is firmly closed currently (Apr 2001) with no plans to re-open it.
A shot from the other side of the bridge, showing the shops tacked on like boxes to the the main bridge.
