Canary Islands - Fuerteventura

This was the second Christmas spent in Fuerteventura. The first time was spent in Caleta de Fustes - a custom built resort town in the centre of the island. This time was far better, spent at the top of the Island in Corralejo, staying at the Verdemar Apartments shown below. The weather was mostly perfect, hot and sunny most days, in the 80s (25C).

The best beaches are south of town, by the sand dunes which stretch for 6 miles south of Corralejo.

The local inhabitants, goats, outnumber humans 5 to 1, and survive by eating what little vegitation grows on the desert island.

Just outside Corralejo, is the Isla de Lobos, which has a small extinct volcano and a few undulating hills. A nice day out, there are some sheltered coves with sand for swimming in, or you can hike over the island, and it's solidified lava.

Around 10 miles from Corralejo is El Cotillo, a small, less developed town, with a couple of great beaches.
