Doodles at Work
Desert Island was the first theme drawn on the white board at work.
The perenial dream of being stranded on a desert island...
The original doodle had a hot air balloon floating over the island,
In tribute to 'I Dream of Jeanie', a genie bootle sat on the beach,
and Major Healey's Space Capsule floating down to land on the beach.
We also had a dolphin in the bay, and a green bottle with a note 'SOS' in it.
A star fish and a conche shell lay on the beach.
In typical San Diego style we had a biplane fly across the sky
pulling a banner saying "Chargers Suck" - the San Diego Football team
which was in the middle of a 7 game losing streak.
The Medieval Castle replaced the desert island.
Not as popular as the original doodle,
it was quickly hijacked by anti-Microsoft feelings,
with the Volcano representing Mt. Microsoft,
and the central mountain being Mt. Sun - "Always Open".
A man on horseback rode out from the castle, carrying the banner "Chargers Suck".
The deal with the Chargers fan was, when the Chargers won, they could erase the banner.
The Medieval Castle was replaced by a beach scene of Coronado
then as Christmas approached, a Christmas Tree appeared on the board.
That has now been replaced by a scene from a Wild West Town
In the middle of a shoot out - High Noon. Brian 'Dirty Harry' Callahan is the person I sit next to
The top left, we have the Global Health Mutual Fund going up in smoke...
We all just recently bought into it at a price of 43, just to see it tumble
a few days later to a price of 32... Shit Happens
And "Michael McEvoy's Forbidden Garden", about another work colleague,
"an enigmatic figure who prefers the loneliness of the wild to society and its entrapments.",
or so the romantic pulp book "Forbidden Garden" would have us believe.
Sinclair Gomes for President...
What an insipired slogan for an employee who gives so much to the company.
A man who's enthusiasm for work is so electric.
Of course, no sooner had we nominated Sinclair for President, he goes and quits the company!
We had to include a reference to the Chargers in the graveyard.
Las Vegas has the Chargers at 60 to 1 to win the Superbowl next year, yes they're that good.
Finally, my departure from NACM, brought a commemorative doodle from Brian 'Dinosaur' Callahan:
