Tall Ships
These are from a Tall Ships festival, July 1999
The Star of India, San Diego's year round tall ship attraction, by day and night. Built 1863 in Ramsey, Isle of Man, and launched as the Euterpe, it has sailed around the world 21 times, mainly as an emigrant ship to New Zealand, and later, as the Star of India, working in Alaska. Retired in 1923, it was bought by San Diegans, and finally restored to her current condition in 1976

Built in 1968 in Spain, in the Barque style.
The Japanese ship, Kaiwo Maru (King of the Sea), a 4 masted barque, setting sail, alas going under tug power, rather than sail power.
The US Coast Guard's Eagle, another Barque ship, built in 1936, often seen sailing through San Diego, as it takes groups of teenagers and teaches them how to man a sail ship. Moored at Broadway Pier, One America Plaza can be seen in the background.
Finally, the Coronado Ferry, the Silvergate, coming in to dock (bottom left). Smaller than the other ferry used, the Cabrillo, I used to catch the ferry to work 4 or 5 times a week.
