Joshua Tree is just north of Palm Springs, around 2 hours east of Los Angeles.
Made famous by the U2 album, it is a great outdoor escape.
I spent a weekend in March up there. The most spectacular areas are the two central valleys, populated with Joshua Trees. It is a great hiking area, paths leading through the valleys and up the escarpments.
Deep in the valley, surrounded by trees
Cap Rock - normally covered in climbers by mid afternoon, this was taken early in the morning.
Keys View. The end of the road in Joshua Tree, this gives a stunning view of the Palm Springs valley with the San Andres fault running through it. This day was unusually clear and you can see over the next range to the Salton Sea and to the San Ysidro Mountains in Mexico.
