The third highest cause of deaths in the UK is due to side-effects from drugs that have had unexpected results on humans after being tested on animals. There's absolutely no need to carry out tests on animals, as not only should they have the same rights as humans, the tests are not 100% acurate due to many differences in the genetic makeup of humans and different species of animals.
A major argument heard time and time again is that it is worth sacrificing a 'couple of rats' in order to save human lives. This is rubbish. Not only are the animals that are used in experiments varied from dogs, cats, to guinea pigs and lizards, but the effects have so far not cured anybody of any life-threatning diseases.
On the contray, animals are killed in horrific experiments that are carried out for products that are not even necessary to humans, such as anti-wrinkle cream.
