Under A Faded Sun
A football player on a field
running plays under a bright sun
to others he does not yield
and the story goes on
One day or one night
he sickens suddenly
pain grips him tight
a cancer is in sight
The parents rushed him to Tennessee
under a faded sunrise
there his only hope lies
maybe some unknown key
will be found under faded skies
The doctors try this and that
different combinations to the lock
a cure from under the magician's hat
with hope solid as a rock
They fight a long and desperate fight
to save this child's life
with the sun sometimes dim, sometimes bright
In the end the doctors win
and the child returns to normal
thanks to the caring folks in
Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital
But the story does not end
with a happy sound
four other children were rushed
to the Tennessee ground
And the children died
and their parents cried
the struggle goes on
under a faded sun
