OF A LUNCH
A young man dreams of lunch
does he have enough money
to treat a fair young lady
why does his heart fill with dread
Why does he think ahead
to the lunch he has planned
is the date he made
going to go as planned
He looks up in wonder
just trying to think
is anything left to ponder
but there is no missing link
Then the bell rings
and his heart sings
the time is now here
and he has nothing to fear
Or does he have a reason
for it has been a long season
is he afraid of going out
will his fears cause him to shout
He waits in a long hall
leaning against a wall
then he sees her coming
and he felt some fear passing
They walk across the street
and order their food
sitting in the sunny seat
he finds a pensive mood
They talk of first days
of old loves and new things
soaking in the sun rays
waiting for what the future brings
He looks at her and dreams
of things that might have been
but nothing is as it seems
and life is not only what is seen
The dreamer is lost again
to the special moment
to a land without clouds or rain
the moment is heaven sent
But the dreamer is alone
and the man feels his pain
for the dream is his own
and the moment will not remain
Oh he knows that love is dear
and a love lost is an awful pain
but a dreamer is always near
willing to try again and again
But the lonely man feels it in his soul
the forlornness of his life
the stirring of his heart
and the remembered pain of a broken love
The moment ended in talk
and the couple leave it behind
it is just a short walk
to work and love and time are kind
A half hour lunch passes quickly
and some moments are lost in time
any comment can be the key
to unlock the memories of time
