eons
Eons

The rain comes
gently falling

d
 o
  w
   n

inside of
my soul
as I remember
prior days
centuries

I know her
    as
I knew her

we were close once
in some dimly
remembered life

now I see her
smiling face
feel the touch
of her soul
inside of mine
reawakening passion
I thought
was lost in time

it was eons ago
to a much
different me

when life's
pleasures
were brand new

but mow
I'm far older
perhaps
a trifle bitter

skeptical
it happens

when one lives
the lifetimes
I faced
a pariah
from my own kind
if any ever existed
quite like me

but I see
her eyes
inside of my soul
reminding me
of prior days
of prior affairs

and my spirit
whispers
from the darkness

we could be happy
we've waited eons
what's the difference
a few more years
will have on us

she's free
more powerful
more vibrant
a soul mate
that must be free

her passion
draws me on

and dreamscapes
appear in daylight
at the mere touch
of her psyche
inside of me

a tender rose
with thorns

pricking
my heart
until I'm lost
inside of her
at least spiritually
if not physically

it's been eons
a great love story
that's never been
fully realized

somehow we never made it
to the liason we wanted
duty called us apart

both of us
sacraficed our
love to the great god
called responsibility

the minstrels
sand of
star-crossed lovers
not realizing
they were there

listening to the words
but fated to live apart
divided by time
for so long

until now
when I see her
a different gulf
lies between us
in this modern world

my crimes come back
to haunt me from the
beginning of time
and duty to our dieties
still drive us apart

perhaps there's a way
back for us
so we can live again
but we must wait
and watch for the
correct timing
as I've done
for eons

this love for you
always pulls me
lighting the fire
as I see your eyes
bright shining as stars
in my darkest night
hanging still for eons
in the heavens

our paths may allow
a brief liason once again
perhaps more
I hope so
for love grows
into a bright fire

perhaps a desire
best left untouched
I don't think so

and I look at you
seeing you once
again as I saw you
as one newborn

and the way
light shines in you
and your soul

it seems like eons
since we last touched
soul to soul
sprirt to spirit
body to body
when we joined
for what we hoped
to be forever

it was found
only in a couple
of nights

the memory lasted
and the ghost
haunts me of
those nights together

and I see you now
as I once did
no longer a ghost
but alive again

perhaps it'll be eons
before we touch again
only the scribes
up in the heavens
know the fates

if I had my way
we'll join now
and remain together
as we promised

but we both had duties
to perform for the mighty
and we still do
but I carry the love
that I feel for you
as my strength
which lasted for eons

will we ever begin
will we ever rejoin
to renew the bond
we had to forgo

the answers are lost
somewhere in the eons
that remain in the future
