camp_koch_1990Camp Koch 1990

On top of a high hill
sits a place where I once went
a camp for the handicapped
where the fun never was spent

So many memories inside of my mind
of the councilors so kind
stopping to help out for a summer
and giving a little bit of themselves

But Camp Koch was not just
full of special people
it was a whole lifetime
placed inside of two weeks

You see I grew up there on the hill
turning from an insecure child
to a man with some talents
and faith in his abilities

A whole lifetime of memories
is what I could write down
how one could see so many trees
passed the nearest towns

I fell in love there
with a red haired girl
but unlike Charlie Btown
I could talk to her

The beauties of nature
I learned at camp
the simple pleasure of birds
singing in a summer's day

I looked down at the Ohio River
many times just thinking
of what it would be like
if I followed its course

Oh yes a whole lifetime
of what might have beens
am I happy in my course
I am but that is life

A young crippled boy at
Camp Koch for the Handicapped
I miss it and its call
of peace and adventure
