Waplewo

A locality about 55 km southwest of Elbl·g and about 80 km southwest of GdaÕsk. The palace dates from the 17th to 19th century and is surrounded by a 12 hectare park. Waplewo belonged to well known Polish families - the last were the Sierakowskis. At that time, Waplewo became an important cultural center. The palace housed a gallery of famous painters (Dòrer, Tycjan, Rubens). Frederick Chopin stayed here in 1827. Unfortunately, the collections disappeared during World War II (most likely stolen by the Nazis).
