MOCK 2: THE SPEED OF STUPID

By Various

This is a jokewad produced by various authors in the community consisting of 41 of the most ridiculous, insane and deliberately designed crap to try and initiate 1994 style wads with extremely funny messages, terrible item placement, ridiculous monster placement, terrible music, horrible level design such as sky floors, scrolling doors and other weird things. Firstly the gameplay is very unbalanced, the challenge is almost impossible in some levels. The aim is to make fun of Doom, make fun of newbie levels, its Doomed Comedy at its very best. So I have serious reviews of each map in Mock 2. Some are good, some are bad, some are ugly.

LEVEL BY LEVEL

Level 1: This is a pretty crappy level in every sense. A fake 3D bridge leads you to the exit but you fall straight through it. You then open a horrible looking door which moves very slowly. You wander through these very dark corridors and kill some monsters (mainly former humans and imps) and then progress to the exit. GP: 3/10 - CH: 6/10 - AR: 1/10  - IT: 5/10  - FU:5/10

Level 2: You lower the wall in front of you which contains a shitload of chainsaws and a friendly Imp and Spectre can be seen attacking a Demon. There is also a Cyberdemon (which also gets attacked by the friendly Imp and Spectre once they kill the Demon), some soulspheres and plasma gun plus cells plus a Demon that is dormant. Its always fun fighting the Cyber. Also in this room there is this very long lift which takes a few minutes to lower and raise back up that's because the lift needs to lower by 10,000 pixels, the height of the room is 128 pixels. Once you reach the top you face 4 Barons, get a Rocket Launcher and press the double exit switch. GP: 5/10 - CH: 6/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 5/10

Level 3: Huge randomly designed rooms with tons of Cyberdemons stuck together with Wolfenstein Nazis shooting from behind and it really can't get any crazier than this. From there on you enter a large room full of Spider Masterminds, come across a room with about 20 or so Hanging Commander Keens and once you kill them all you face a maze with some Revenants and an Archvile. The exit contains 3 Romero Heads which can be crushed by pressing a switch, very funny indeed. GP: 3/10 - CH: 4/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 4: A small level with some serious texture usage problem, plus a rather funny message at the start. Pointless but Funny. GP: 2/10 - CH: 4/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 10/110

Level 5: Nothing that interesting. This is a strange level that uses silent teleporters to teleport you to near identical areas. The Super Mario Bros 3 music gives it a touch. A pretty boring level in many senses. GP: 2/10 - CH: 2/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 4/10

Level 6: Simply Amazing!. You are in a massive room with 700 Cyberdemons or so. The amount of rockets coming at you is unbelievable. If you thought nuts.wad was crazy well this makes it look very childish! GP: 1/10 - CH: 10/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 7: A large room with hundreds of shifting platforms in a 64x64 grid like pattern and various monsters to fight. Pretty tough and frustrating. If you've seen the shifting platforms in Doom's E2M3 well you'll be in total shock when you see this one! GP: 4/10 - CH: 9/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 2/10

Level 8: Massive outdoor level with hundreds of Cacodemons and very low gravity. There are buildings packed of health and ammo plus a Romero Head as the exit. The ceiling height is 20,000 units/pixels high. This is a sure fun level to play especially with the summon and summonfriend command in Zdoom. GP: 10/10 - CH: 7/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 10/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 9: "Ejipt" consists of a large outdoor area of horrible designed Sand Dunes, tons of HOM's, and a shitload of Pain Elementals. Looks like a total newbie map making fun of Egypt and Deserts. Crazy level indeed! GP: 4/10 - CH: 10/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 8/10

Level 10: Hilarious!, you start in a room and a message pops up saying "To finish teh gaime, joo must catch m3, te switch!" A switch scrolls around the room counter clockwise and once its caught you progress through to a shooting gallery where you must catch the Nazi and shoot him (a Adolf Hitler texture). Once you mange to shoot him you fight a Cyberdemon in a room where the floor textures constantly change. Kill the Cyber and you get a Yellow Key and you can exit. GP: 7/10 - CH: 8/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 3/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 11: In this map you rape many SS Nazi's to death in an outdoor hallway with heaps of Chainguns and Beserk packs. There is also a huge downward slope. GP: 3/10 - CH: 1/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 5/10

Level 12: A Slige Generated Level. Pretty Tough. GP: 7/10 - CH: 9/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 6/10 - FU: 4/10

Level 13: Hilarious!, at the start you once you move you are forced to wait as a message pops up saying Wait, then just a few more seconds. But after a fairly long wait you're off and away. You go up these huge sloped hallways fighting monsters, including many stealth monsters. What is so funny is that when you enter a certain area the rather corny Austin Powers like music changes pitch. Once you get to the top of this huge slope after fighting many stealth imps you fall down this huge pit where there is a single hanging Commander Keen doll which is easily dealt with the BFG to win the level! GP: 10/10 - CH: 6/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 7/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 14: Pretty boring S shaped hallway that goes on forever. I almost fell asleep when playing this level. GP: 2/10 - CH: 6/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 0/10

Level 15: The Mining Faecility resembles massive outdoor hallways where you must travel ridiculous distances to open doors. Boring! GP: 1/10 - CH: 0/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 1/10

Level 16: A crappy level with several monsters, terrible item placement, horrible texture usage, a very funny and sad face. Oh yes, its Mockery at its very best! GP: 5/10 - CH: 8/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 8/10

Level 17: In Indiana Jones you run straight to the exit dodging crushing ceilings and Nazi's along the way and not to mention the Indiana Jones theme song. GP: 4/10 - CH: 0/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 10/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 18: A very dark maze full of Spectres would have to be every Speedrunner's Nightmare! GP: 1/10 - CH: 10/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 5/10

Level 19: A series of crappy rooms with monsters connected by Teleporters. The rooms spell out "U ARE A FAG" - so Bruno from Austria and other gay men please play this one! Demonstrates how Americans can't stand gay people LOL!. - GP: 3/10 - CH: 6/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 9/10

Level 20: You are surrounded by a scrolling lava sky, a very slow opening door and a huge hallway of stealth monsters and particle fountains!. Not only that but an absolutely dreadfully funny piece of music accompanies the level. The whole level is the lava sky and is very unrealistic. Hilarious! GP: 5/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 21: An extremely funny map made by our good old aussie author Deathz0r with a very slow polyobject which takes about minute to open some very funny messages making fun of Dating, Chatlines, ICQ, Messenger, etc. The exit room contains the supposed girlfriend (a cyberdemon) and it rains BFG's, Floating Barons and Megaspheres and the Barons K.O the Cyberdemon. GP: 10/10 - CH: 2/10 - AR: 5/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 22: Very Funny. You get circus music, enemies stuck in walls, a so called "Mirror Maize", a tiny world which is a tiny door with an imp stuck inside and other crazy moments!. Worth a blast. GP: 7/10 - CH: 7/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 23: Firstly the name for this map made me crack up. It is named "The Electric Duck Experience" and what an experience you are about to get here. There are scrolling walls everywhere, a massive hallway with crushing ceilings leading to just ONE Health Bonus, yes just ONE!. Plus a few huge falls, a massive Cacodemon fight and other monster packed canyons. GP: 7/10 - CH: 8/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 10/110

Level 24: Just a shitload of BFG's, Arhcviles and Cyberdemons squashed into this rather crappy maze combined with Super Mario invincible music. GP: 2/10 - CH: 7/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 8/10

Level 25: A flawed night-time city full of Nazis, Cyberdemons and a marble stone building with a shitload of Demons on it. A Romero head out at sea is the exit. GP: 4/10 - CH: 2/10 - AR: 6/10 - IT: 3/10 - FU: 7/10

Level 26: MockDonalds is a mocked-up recreation of a McDonald's restaurant complete with a Drive-Thru. You start outside in a car park facing a shitload of imps and a Cyberdemon. You go inside and the obese Mancubi are at the tables after eating their Big Macs and stuck motionless and there are many archviles and there is a slaughterhouse with many chainsaws and dead enemies and children's playground with a ball pit (containing many partial invisibilities), slide and swings. The exit is located in the toilets but as you jump on the toilet a message pops up saying you must go down the slide to exit and that made me really laugh. One of the funniest moments in Mock 2. GP: 10/10 - CH: 9/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 8/10 - FU: 10/110

Level 27: You progress through some slime halls and collect the "keys" and fight your way through hundreds of enemies. Then you are in a forest full of enemies where the exit switch is located. GP: 7/10 - CH: 7/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 2/10 - FU: 7/10

Level 28: This is pretty crappy and boring, nuff said! GP: 3/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 1/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 1/10

Level 29: A very funny scripted level, Hilarious! GP: 10/10 - CH: 1/10 - AR: 5/10 - IT: 0/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 30: Tons of Voodoo Dolls, plus all the weapons. Don't get the BFG because they are gay!. The Icon of Sin consists of many Romero heads and  many spawn shooters which make a tremendous amount of distorted noise telefragging spawned enemies once you finish the level you go straight on to the secret levels. GP: 3/10 - CH: 3/10 - AR: 6/10 - IT: 3/10 - FU: 7/10

Level 31: You finally get to enter a good looking room with nice lighting effects and architecture but a message pops up on the screen saying "This is way too much detail"  combined with a sample of Austin Powers saying "wait a sec - this sort of thing ain't my bag baby". The scripted room then un-details itself giving it a bland appearance. The rest of the level is not as good but then you are stuck in an endless outdoor hallway which never ends and pushing the wall exits. Hilarious! GP: 9/10 - CH: 1/10 - AR: 8/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 32: The funny thing about this map is the music, it is absolutely hilarious. If you try and open the first door you get crushed, so use the switch to open the door and then defeat the floating Hell Knight. Once he's defeated splattering bodies come falling down from the sky and a wall lowers revealing piles of enemies on top of explosive barrels which automatically explode killing the enemies. They you must fight many Cacodemons and Archviles to win the level. GP: 6/10 - CH: 8/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 9/10

Level 33: A rather strange underwater level. Not that funny. GP: 3/10 - CH: 4/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 3/10 - FU: 2/10

Level 34: Many teleporting monsters which includes Cyberdemons with Railguns and an outdoor area that literally screams its butt away. GP: 4/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 5/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 7/10

Level 35: A funny map with a strange Mortal Kombat area which made me laugh, a funny crushing ceiling, a funny commander keen area and a funny canyon where all these Cyberdemons pile up on top of each other! GP: 7/10 - CH: 7/10 - AR: 3/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 9/100

Level 36: Very strange level with some very funny scripts. You go into a good looking room and there is a guy in trouble claming than an imp stole his muffin. You then progress through some very colourful and bizarre level full of HOM's, Nazi's and terrible item placement and after a meeting and saving the crocodile hunter Steve Irwin you watch these colourful Cyberdemons rocket each other. A superb mock level! GP: 8/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU:10/10

Level 37: A room with exits to various secret levels and a few silly jokes thrown in. GP: 2/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 4/10 - IT: 1/10 - FU: 3/10

Level 38: From the same author as MassMouth 2, Cybmock is certainly a blast. The opening room has these rockets spiralling out in a circular direction, the rockets hurt so be careful!. You then go into a room full of dormant Cacodemons and by pressing a switch some of the Cacos are killed leading path to a room with crazy scrolling walls. You are then teleported back to the start room and a wall lowers very slowly revealing just one Imp, powerful firearms and a switch and when you press the switch the author claimed that his 7 year old brother wanted to make part of the level. The part made by the so-called 7 year old has excellent architecture and a fight against two Cacodemons. Once you kill the Cacos you are teleported into an area where you must shoot this box, and there is a funny joke involving John Romero very funny indeed! GP: 9/10 - CH: 1/10 - AR: 5/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 39: The colourful, foggy level is certainly funny as hell with some very funny scripts such as a bridge that has been grossly hacked among other things. Some of the scripts are extremely funny and I better not tell you any more or it will spoil the fun. GP: 7/10 - CH: 9/10 - AR: 6/10 - IT: 4/10 - FU: 10/10

Level 40: Strange map where you must fight enemies high up in the sky with a few funny scripts thrown in. GP: 5/10 - CH: 10/10 - AR: 2/10 - IT: 6/10 - FU: 6/10

Level 41: Credits level made by various authors. It has some extremely funny moments such as Uncle Hitler, crazy music consisting of Doom SFX and a huge person's ass doing a shit into the toilet. I won't tell you much more or it will spoil the fun. GP: 10/10 - CH: 5/10 - AR: 6/10 - IT: 5/10 - FU: 10/10

Overall a mixed bag. There are some very funny maps and the odd boring ones too. To be honest I think you guys will really enjoy playing Mock 2 if you have nothing to do in your spare time but if you are a serious Doomer, or some country bumpkin that don't understand humour I'm not sure if you will like this. The best levels in Mock2 were Map08, Map10, Map13, Map21, Map22, Map26, Map32, Map35, Map36, Map38, Map39 and Map41 all which scored a 6 or over with Map26 - MockDonalds been the best of the bunch scoring a 7.8 out of 10. And not to mention Map29 and Map31 which made me laugh my guts out! Remember these maps were done by authors in the community who are pretty good authors actually but wanted to create newbie like maps on purpose with deliberate errors, HOM's, enemies stuck in walls, terrible music and other crazy stuff such as countless John Romero heads impaled on sticks. Its a worthwhile download in many respects but please avoid if you are looking for something much more serious.

GOOD: Reasonable Challenge, Extremely Funny Jokes and Humour

BAD: Architecture, Item Placement (if you're serious enough)

Gameplay: 5.3/10 - Challenge 5.6/10 - Architecture 3.1/10 - Item Placement 3.7/10 - Fun Factor 7/10

OVERALL RATING - 5 out of 10
