West is Wild Again

Per usual, West race tight as all five teams within one game of each other

Many things change from year to year, but the PFL's Western Division is almost always a close fight from day one through the end of the season. It has been that way since the early days of the league, particularly the last three yers...and it is no different in 2005.

Two teams always in the thick of things out west are the Alaskan Assassins and Yukon Icebreakers, both of whom came off disappointing losses in week 3. Dave laid an egg in a 98-55 loss to Jeremy while Travis was on the short end of an 88-63 decision to Duane. Unfortunately for Dave, the lack of running backs again proved costly as the Assassins fell in the traditional "Battle for the Ice Chip" 102-78. Terrell Owens and Marvin Harrison combined for 45 points while Donovan McNabb scored a team-high 30, but got little help elsewhere.

Around the League

Ironwood Cox 102 Standale Big Knox 86
Last week, Jeff's Standale Big Knox scored 172 in a convincing win over rival Grand Rapids. This week, they scored half that...and still nearly pulled it off. After just one week as holder of the "King of the Mountain" trophy, Mike takes over that title with a 102-86 win in a battle of Eatern Division co-leaders. It was another well-rounded effort for the Cox (3-1), led by Lamont Jordan's 20 points. As usual, LaDanian Tomlinson led the Knox (2-2) with 28.

Grand Rapids Greased Lightning 115 Crazy Jimmies 67
141 points was not enough last week for Grand Rapids (3-1), but 115 was more than enough to beat the Jimmies in an Eastern Division tilt. No Lightning player topped 20 points, but seven reached double figures. Marc Bulger scored 30 for the Jimmies (1-3) in defeat.

Whooping Llamas 127 Muskegon Mudhens 85
Peyton Manning finally came to life this week, scoring a team-high 29 points, but a randomized lineup hurt the Mudhens' (2-2) chances against an explosive Whooping Llama squad. Jeremy's team scored a franchise-record 127 points in a 42 point victory. Plaxico Burress led the way with 32 points for the Llama's (2-2)second consecutive win.

Eugene Levies 100 Climax 69ers 72
A season that began with high hopes for the Climax 69ers is quickly heading south. After a heartbreaking week three loss, Paul's squad came out flat against the top team in the Eastern Conference. The Atlanta defense made a close game more comfortable for Eugene (3-1) with their 25-point performance.
