You can paint the entire taillamp red or leave the reverse cover white and replace the stock bulbs with superwhites.
You can also use this method to smoke out your taillamps. Get transparent smoke paint instead of the red. How many coats depends on your taste.
Here's what you need:
* If you have one near you, go to PepBoys and get Plasi-Kote Transparent Candy Apple Red auto paint (It is either #300 or #400) and the glossy clear topcoat. They are no more than $5 each.
1. Pop your trunk, push back the trunk lining, disconnect your bulbs, unscrew the four bolts and take out your outer tail lights. For the inner two taillamps on your trunk, unscrew the single screw in the middle of the plastic cover. then take off the three bolts and one lug nut. Put all bolts, nuts and screws in a safe place.
2. Tape off the parts you don't want to paint and cover work area with newspaper. If you're working inside, make sure the room is well ventilated (I did this outside on my driveway.)
3. Using the red paint, spray a THIN coat on the tail lamp. Let it COMPLETELY DRY.
4. Repeat four times.
5. Put two coats of the clear glossy topcoat. Let dry.
6. Replace taillamps.
*****You can test them at night with the stock bulbs or you can replace them with red or superwhites. Make sure they blink red.
Good luck!
