Stephen was probably the first and only one of the name that emigrated to America during its early history. He with wife Jane, came to Salisbury, Ma between 1640 and 1646, and were among the first settlers of that town. He was admited a townsman in feb 1650, this was different from being admitted a freeman, as the latter was conferred by the general or qtr. courts only.
