| If you decide to take the same route we did please heed the following warning. We walked from just north of the Hotel Del to a mile or so south of the Silver Strand State Beach entrance. We got the brilliant idea to return on the shore for a more scenic walk. When we were less than a mile from our cars, a uniformed, armed-with-a-scary-looking-weapon miltary guard told us we had to return to the Strand entrance, about 4 miles away, and return to the road to get to our destination. We protested that one of us had walked the exact same route a week before without being stopped. Basically, he said "tough". As we were heading south again, we met a runner and told him he should turn around. As it turned out, he was military and told us we should have heeded the signs saying to keep out. We never saw these signs on the beach side. So be alert--hopefully you will see the signs. |
