|
| The Musgrove story, in brief: Arriving on the doorstep of her father's new lodgings, Niamh Musgrove begsfor a place where the family can stay. It's just short term, until the damage to her house can be fixed. They had been flooded and the ceilings had crashed around them. Unbeknown to Niamh, her youngest son Matt, had flooded the loft while attempting to water his latest crop of marijuana. Another problem, soon to raise it's head, was that her husband, Joey, had failed to renew the buildings insurance, having spent the money on drink instead. Joey worked as a milkman and a minicab driver, and to calm his nerves before informing Niamh about the lack of insurance, he accepted a drink from Jimmy Corkhill. That night, while taking a fare, he was stopped and breathalysed. He confided in his son Luke who offered to help him financially. When the case came to court, Joey was found guilty and banned from driving for six months. A colleague, who had driven Joey to court that day, grasped the opportunity to blackmail him in return for his silence.Joey borrowed from their savings and in desperation for more money tried to swindle the insurance company by setting fire to their house. Drunk and overcome by smoke, he collapsed. Luke, sent out by his mother to look for him, broke into the house and rescued his father. While in hospital, recovering, Niamh's father Alec, tells her how Joey had spent all their savings. Niamh, hearing how Joey had lost his licence and was being blackmailed, confronts the work colleague by threatening him with her boys. Things in the household go from bad to worse when Luke is arrested for the rape of Nikki Shadwick. The whole family are rejected by the neighbours and Sinbad asks them to leave his house. Niamh, distraught, begs Jackie Corkhill to talk to Sinbad who decides they can stay providing Luke is not sent down. The courts deciding to make an issue of drug rape, prolong the ordel as Luke is commited to trial. His brother, Ryan, is devastated by this decision and persecutes Nikki, even threatening her in her own house. When the police call to question him he denies it, causing more friction between the families. Supporting Luke by visiting him in prison, he begins a relationship with Katie Rogers (secretary to the law firm defending Luke) Katie had had a previous relationship with Nikki's brother Jason, much to Ryan's amusement. Younger brother Matt, forever thinking of quick ways to earn money, robs Greg Shadwick of a bag of hardcore. With his enterprising mate Bosco they create the new cult of Shad. The hardcore now sold in a pouch become the "stones of Shad" and sold at Glastonbury for a fiver a pouch! Stealing a computer from the school, they set up a website for their new enterprise and sell their produce on a new found internet audience. They also tried to con money from the unsuspecting public, by offering to check and protect computers for the millenium bug! However, Jaqui Dixon's sister Megan turned the tables on them and took their hard earned cash with a ruse of her own. Meanwhile, Kelly secretly becomes good friends with Emily Shadwick and, despite being shunned by most girls from school ,they continue to go out and about together, with support from both respective grandparents. |
