This masthead was used with the first issues of Morgan County's Southern Miscellany, April-July, 1842. Publisher Cornelius R. Hamleiter was awaiting the arrival of the official "vignette".
The ornate vignette finally arrived from engraver R. Roberts of _________and was first printed in the ___, 1842 issue.
Hanleiter relocated to Atlanta, and in 1847 was printing from there the Southern Miscellany for Madison.
The Madison Family Visitor began publilcation in 1847. Extant copies cover all of 1856.
The Georgia Weekly Visitor apparently grew out of the Madison Family Visitor, with the name changing in 1859. Each issue is labeled with both an "Old Series" number and a "New Series" number. The four extant issues include one before the Civil War and three during.
