| Lesson Plan Subject : English Strand Unit : Creative Writing Date : Time : 30 minutes Class : 1st class Resources : Objectives : To enable the child to � Choose a topic and genre to write about � employ a pre-writing activity to get started { brainstorming } Introduction : Ask all the children to sit down and listen for a few minutes as today they are going to start writing stories of teir own.The teacher will invite to give some suggestions on a topic to write about.Then explain to them that the tpoic that they choose to write about can be of any type to their liking, on anything at all that they choose.This includes something which happened to them, something imaginary , or a poem.explain that the whole pocess will take a few days to complete and when it is finished that they will be reading it out for the class.Finally all the stories will be gathered and put into our book which will be then displayed in the library , and to keep this in mind when they are writing their stories. Development : Then the teacher will demonstrate to the children how I would choose a topic.Explain to them the concept of brainstorming and give them an example on the blackboard.then select children to come up to the oard and let them give the class examples of brainstorming of their own.Then encourage the childrento brainstorm a topic of their own choice and to put down all the words that come into their head.then pair the children off to discuss ideas of their own whilwe the teacher moves around the classroom.explain to them if neccessary that they can draw out a rough sketch of the story to help them aloong with their story.then let them complete their work on the sheets that re handed out. Closure : Then question the children @ What is the tpoic you have chosen@ @how are you going to lay it out@ @Did brainstorming beforehand help you get all your ideas together@ After this go around and collect all the sheets with their work on it which will be returned to the children in the next lesson Lesson Plan Subject : English Strand Unit : Creative writing Date : Time : 30 Minutes Class : 1st class Resources : Objectives : to enable the child to � Begin the first draft of their creative writing pieces Construct sentences with capital letters and full stops Introduction : The teacher will distribute the pages the children used for their brainstorming sessions in the previous lesson.Commend the chiildren on their efforts.explain to them that they are going to begin their first draft of their stories and give them them instructions on howe to do this "Only use every second line , Write as fast as you can and dont stop to rub out mistakes"."I want you to get as much as you can written down".Then question the children on what I have just said "What have you to do" "what will you do if you make a mistake: "What if you cant spell a word,what do you do" "Do you write on each line" Development : Let the children commence to write while the teacher moves around the classroom.Conference with them while they write and should they hav any difficulties help nd encourage them by listening on what they are trying to say.The children will be encouraged to talk rather than the teacher doing all the talking.Then conduct a mini lesson on writing sentences.Ask th students questions like "How do we begin a sentence" "How does it end" Using a metre stick ask the children to point capital letters on the wall.Then ask " What does a fullstop look like" and then ask agin "How do we begin/end a sentence".Then put some sentences on the blackboard and ask the children to correct the errors in them.Then call out some sentences and ask the children to write them downThen question them again "How do we begin/end a sentence" Closure : Ask the children to take one mpoore look at their writing piece and read it to themselves carefully.Then explain to them that inb the next session that they will bregin to edit them.Then go thriough explaining what editing is.Finally collect all the pages again form the students and store them away for use in the next lesson. |
