Lesson Plan Subject : S.E.S.E Geography Strand Unit : Date : Time : 35 Minutes Class : 1st Class Resources : Objectives : To enable the chilren to � identify the location of egypt on th map � describe and contrast the climate and living condition between Egypt and Irelnd � Record the climate ,livin conditions and the typical apperance of an Egyptian Introduction : Bring their attention to the map of the world on the wall and ask "Does anybody know what this called?".Then when they answer ask them "Why would anybody have a map of the world?".When there is a reply given "Its for showing where the countries are " give them another question to find out their knowledge "Well could you show me where Ireland is on the map?".Then try and let them find Egypt by guessing and then checking their guess by the labels on the map.Then when they find it put a red circular ring around Egypt so everybody knows where it is.Then talk about the location of Egypt "Look how far away it is from Ireland,and aswell there is a huge sea between Ireland and Egypt.:That sea is called the Meditteranean sea and there are alot of countries between them aswell.Then go through the names of some of the countries. Development :Take out the picture of a typical day in Ireland showing the weather.Then ask the children "What kind of weather do we have in Ireland ,Is it hot or cold?".Then get their impressions of what the weather would be like in Egypt.Then take out a picture of Ehypt showing the weather in Egypt and ask them to describethe weather."Is it hot or cold?".Bring their attention to the ground cover in Egypt and ask them "What kind of material is on the ground ,while we have mud and soil".Then pass around samples of sand and soil so they can feel the different textures of the two and see the visual appearance.Get the children to hypothesize whether it would be different and tougher to live in the heat in Egypt."What changes do you imagine they would make in Egypt, such as houses and clothes" Closure :Take out the worksheets and distribute them around the classroom.Go through the worksheets first with them.When the explanation of what has to be done has been given ask them if they have any questions.Then get a child to explain what they have to do.then let them begin and while they are working circulate around the clasroom helping children who need assistance.Then while they are working hand them out A4 sheets and colours to draw the typical appearance of an Egyptian.Give them about seven minutes to complete this task before putting eveything away. |
