CLOSING
One of the best examples I know showing how important it is to think out of the box and at the same time be grounded in reality (understanding and respecting costs involved) and "believing" in something so Strongly that you are a positive influence to those around you...is director Bryan Singer.  Regardless if you like him personally, I highly recommend viewing the director's comments and behind the scenes video available on the "Superman Returns" 2-disc Special Edition  Dvd.  Watching this, you will observe him coming up with the "pitch" to Warner Brothers Studios and observe passion that came from the beginning and lead to him overseeing (managing) a massive team to create what he had in his mind. His vision, his passion for the project, his "listening" to the people around him and his leadership is something to marvel at and to emulate.

I believe what is necessary for today and for the future of commercial radio is to adapt the ways of the Space Program and to think in the manner they did (the Space Program) to get mankind on to the surface of the moon.  You see, this was the biggest game of dealing with competition and having all things at stake....failure was not an option.  This was a monumental project with an unbending time table and with a competitor in your face who would do anything in their power to beat you.  Think how the landscape of the world itself would have been changed if the United States had not won this challenge.  It was said in the 1960s, for a brief period of time mankind was operating ahead of itself, at least a century ahead of time, in development, and most of all, thinking.  The dream, the goal, if you will, to go into space and land on the Moon did not come overnight, it came from careful thinking and most of all out of the box thinking utilizing mankinds greatest gift, the imagination.  The great achievements could never have come to light if mankind had not stepped away from linear thinking.  Once the goal was thought out and a plan, a detailed plan, was written and put into place and, with clearly defined roles, and most of all, teamwork, the dream came to being.  Being visionary, focused, being strong with leadership, having a goal all can strive for and operating as a team, quickly identifying error and adapting to new thoughts and ideas is how one of mankinds greatest achievements was obtained.  Without everyone pulling together the dream could not be fulfilled.  When the Saturn V rocket was launched carrying its Apollo crew to the Moon, this 363 foot rocket had over one million working parts that needed to operate correctly, tens of thousands of technicians all worked on it from assembly plants to the NASA launch site.  If there had not been teamwork, this could not have happened.  A successful radio operation should be the same way.  From the Owners, to the General Manager, to the Sales Manager, to the Programming Manager, to the Sales Department, to the Air Staff, to Engineering...all must  think out of the box,  be focused, believe in a goal and all must pull together for success.
