The waiting took ages, but when they were there, it seemed to be over in the blink of an eye. Herman and Wil ( Pat's parents) went backpacking with us for a whole month! We did and saw so much together and really enjoyed ourselves. Now everything is very quiet. Thank God Hettie and Frans (Sop's parents) will be here in a couple of days. And we can look back at an amazing month together which will stay in our memory...
We started with Bangkok and visited tempels and shopping malls and enjoyed the great food. After a couple of days we headed north. Our first stop was Sukhothai, an old templecomplex we visited per bike from our nice bungalow with swimming pool. After that Chang Mai, where we rented a scooter to visit beautiful temples on a hill. We also learned how to cook Thai in a stunning old Thai house.
But we didn't only visit Thailand. After a day in Chinatown, Bangkok we flew to Phnom Penh, Cambodia and visited the horrible Tuol Sleng prison and the Killing fields. We were all shocked by the poverty and the horror of te Pol Pot regime. But we also saw a beautiful part, when we visited the amazing Angkor Wat. We enjoyed the country per bike, on a tuk tuk and in a bus.
After such an impressive country, we really needed to relax. This is perfect on the green island of Ko Chang. The weather and health were not on our side, but still there was a great atmosphere. The last day was a real highlight. We rented a scooter and visited the most beautiful part of the jungle-island. We had a great time and hopefully so did Herman and Wil. Thank you!!!
