Story 19

Chadors and camels

The caspian sea was not a big succes. We drove 400 kilometers extra just to see it, but then the road turned out to be a "deathtrap highway". That is why after 8 near-death experiences we decided to take a lift to Teheran. For business, cause we had to get our pakistan and india visa. And by now, we know that the bureaucracy of Iran is a disaster, it actually took us ten days, including the time it took for the dutch embassy to apologize to the pakistani embassy for some troubles we had there....Anyway, we have them and we are happy.

The ride that followed was one of the most amazing so far. After a small pass, Pat shouted: 'watch out for these camels!!'. It was a group of twenty, amazing to see. We also drove next to a salt lake, which was beautiful and we broke our record for the longest cycling trip so far, 163 kilometers. When we arrived in Qom, the pleasure was not over yet. We were taken inside the holy shrine, which officially was forbidden for non-muslims. A great experience.

On the way, we met cyclist Benno, the swiss, again and we cycled with him to Natanz, passing the nuclear plat at 200 meters and climbing a pass of 2200.
Then we arrived in Esfahan, one of the most beautiful cities in Iran. Unfortunatly we also had to do some business here, but now it is time to enjoy. And we are taking our time, cause we extended our visa with an extra month. We love Iran!!!
