| Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks - 1988 | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Let me start off by saying that this was my first viewing of a 7th Doctor episode.It was great. It had everything one could want in a Doctor Who episode - fast pacing, lots of explosions, death, destruction, a great story and script, and of course THE DALEKS. This is the last story line involing the Daleks to date and it is a great swan song for them. Back in 1963 the 1st incarnation of the Doctor leaves behind the Hand of Omega which prompts the 7th Doctor to go back and retrieve it before one of two Dalek factions can get their hands (or plungers) on it. Along for the ride is Ace (Sofie Aldred) who plays the Doctor's companion in her first full episode. Along the way they meet a military unit which is trying to comprehend and defeat theses aliens while utilizing the Doctor's aid. The real highlights of this DVD are the extras (the story if worth seeing on it's own merits). I enjoyed the commentary track which features Sylvester McCoy and Sofie Aldred. It proved very enjoyable and informative as they told various anedcotes on the production and mishapps. Also included are 2 scenes shot for 2 different angles. This is fun to check as are the extended/deleted scenes. There is also an isolated music track which is very well done. This a must have for any Dr. Who fan. I hope more McCoy era DVDs are released and done in the same manner as this one. ratings: story: ***** picture: **** sound: **** DVD extras: ***** Starring: Sylvester McCoy (The Doctor), Sofie Aldred (Ace), Simon Williams (Captain Gilmore), Dursley McLinden (Mike), Pamela Salem (Rachel), Karen Gledhill (Allison), George Sewell (Ratcliffe) |
