NEWSPAPER WORKSHEET

Dear Students,

Please read ALL the information on this page BEFORE you start the assignment.

This lesson will take up the hour that we are in the computer laboratory today and, if you do not finish your work by the end of the lesson, you are asked to complete it at home. Alternately, check the open hours of the school computer laboratory and finish it in your own time. It must be finished by the date on the calendar.

Open an MS Word document, give it the heading “Newspaper Assignment” and save it (on W) under your name. You are going to do all your written work on this page.

When you have finished, submit this work electronically to me at [email protected] or, if you do not have this option, print it out and give it in to me by the date given.

Section 1:

Go to www.jpost.com and search for an article about the current situation in Israel. If you do not find one, scroll down to search in the other stories lower down.

Section 2:

Go to www.cnn.com and read an article about the same incident that was reported in the Jerusalem Post. I suggest you open this link in a new window in order to view both articles at the same time.

Section 3:

1.   Using WORD summarize each article under its own headline (copy and paste from the article) in no more than 10 lines. You must also give the date of the newspaper where you found the article.

(20 points)

2.   With whom do you think each reporter sympathizes? Give examples and quotes from the text to substantiate your answer.

(40 points)

3.   Write a comparison between the points of view of these two newspapers. Your answer should be between 80 to 100 words. What difference do you think it makes if you read one newspaper or the other? Explain your reasoning.

(40 points)

Print out your finished work, which is to be given in for marking.
