The first thing you might say is "My horse doesn't have a brand, why do I need a brand inspection?". I know, because I said the same thing. First and foremost, the brand inspection is your proof that you own the horse (also serves as bill of sale) or that ownership has been transferred to you or that you are leasing the horse. |
Secondly, it is your authorization to move the animal across
district/state lines. If you fail to obtain a brand inspection, you are subject to fines and seizure (they can seize your vehicle, horse trailer, and horses!). |
You must obtain a brand inspection at the time of ownership transfer, prior to transporting the animal. Both the seller and buyer (or an authorized buyer's agent) must be present for the brand inspection. |
