Grand Canyon,Arizona
July 16th to July 19th
When we started planning this trip, we knew we wanted to go to the Grand Canyon. So we located Kristen's training start date on the calendar, counted backward, and made reservations for the South Rim Mather Campground for July 16th, 17th, and 18th. The campsite was okay, but the scenery was unbeatable. You can't even believe this stuff is real when you're looking right at it.
There are a variety of locations along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to take pictures, all of them giving you perfect backdrops. Most of our pictures were taken from Yavapai Point, just because that's where we went the most often.
Above: We think that little spot of orange is part of the Colorado River. Being that we couldn't afford a look up-close, we can't be positive, though.
This is DEFINITELY the Colorado River (look closely). It looks pretty small from the rim of the canyon, but the IMAX movie we saw told another story.
Left: Look to the right side of the picture and you can see a guy standing there, RIGHT NEXT TO THE RIM. We wonder if he realized how close he really was. That would be a long way to fall...you definitely wouldn't catch us that close to the edge.
These next few pictures were taken at sunset. Unfortunately, it stormed a lot while we were at the canyon (a few thunderstorms each day), so there were a number of clouds blocking our view.
These elk (you can tell they're elk because they have white butts) were just chilling in our campground, eating their lunch, with a bunch of tourists snapping pictures.
Sunrise over the canyon.
