Carlsbad Caverns
Carlsbad, New Mexico
July 15th
After leaving Odessa, we set off for the Grand Canyon, with a few stops along the way. The first of these stops was at Carlsbad Caverns in Carlsbad, New Mexico. The first two pictures were taken from the outside of the caverns, the others from the inside (but you probably could have figured that out for yourself, right?  We actually took a lot more pictures, but it's difficult to get them to turn out when it's pitch black and you're trying to take a picture of a huge hole. So there you go. Enjoy. You really should see the caverns for yourself. This just isn't the same.
Left: This is called a "lion's tail" and it hangs down from the ceiling.
Above: This formation was actually covered with ice and was dripping water. It was huuuuuuge....so huge we couldn't get a picture of it totally, so we just shot the base.
James (left) and Kristen (below) cheese it up in the caverns. Everyone says how cold it is down there, but when you're coming in from the New Mexico heat, it's a welcome change. Even in the cool caverns, the long walk around, especially when you're in a hurry, can bring about a little sweat.
We look okay in this picture, but the background doesn't. This is how many of our pictures turned out, unfortunately.
